KindnessA major aspect of the spiritual training of a seeker in the path of Sufism is to learn to renounce lowly qualities of materialism, excess and ego.

To do so, one must learn to serve all of humanity with humility and to treat others with dignity, kindness and respect.

Our Silsila is no different, and we all band together under the banner of the Sarwari Qaderi Silsila in order to carry out selfless acts of charity, goodwill and service to humanity. This is the way of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam).

Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam) ensured that poor people and orphans were well taken care of, that it is our duty as Muslims to look after sickly people and to visit them. Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam) taught us to share whatever we can to those less fortunate, because in giving freely of what we possess, we will then receive blessings tenfold. Muhammad’s (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam) life was based on love and serving humanity, goodwill, kindness, mercy, exemplary character and striving to make the world a more equitable and just place.

These are the key teachings of Islam. In order to carry out these teachings and to make a difference in a sustainable way for those in need, our charitable organisation, Sultan Bahu Centre, was established.

Check out some of our silsila’s work in action under our causes.

“All night I shed tears of longing, all day I cry in the pain of seperation!

Oh Bahu!, the secret of love is that you sacrifice your life at the altar of God without a second thought”

- Faaqir Sayed Ally Sarwari Qaderi -

As a Silsila, we have a focussed, community-based organization which is dedicated to serving the welfare needs of the community regardless of colour, race and creed.

All our activities are carried out with love and kindness  under the blessed and watchful gaze of Faqir Sayed Ally, affectionately known as Sheikh, and all our pious spiritual predecessors in our Silsila, and through the infinite barakaat of the Light of this world and the hereafter, the blessed Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam).

The Sarwari Qaderi Silsila, under the auspices of the Sultan Bahu Centre has become a light that guides those in need and shares whatever we have to make a difference in the world and to heal hearts as we go along.

We firmly believe in the importance of quality education. We provide highly subsidised madressa education for children, and classes for adult reverts to Islam. If you would like to sponsor the education of a child, please click here to donate towards this worthy cause.

Sultan Bahu Masjid

Our masjid is the heart of our Silsila and it is the only masjid in the Mayfair/Johannesburg Central area with a Sunni Sufi focus on love, peace and tolerance to all humanity.

You are welcome to observe or come to see how Muslims live and pray at our mosque regardless of one’s religious affiliation. We were featured in The Star for our charitable work:

Please donate towards to the upkeep of the masjid. It is the responsibility of the community to ensure that we always treat the masjid with respect and maintain its pristine finish.

Drug Rehabilitation

We have assisted more than 7000 people over the last decade with our drug rehabilitation programmes. Today, through the Grace of the Almighty, we are the only institution in South Africa that is recognized by government as being competent  enough to employ a funded opioid substitution treatment programme. The effectiveness of our treatment in essence, lies in our combination of the application of Prophetic practice and medical science. All children deserve the best opportunities in life, please consider leaving a donation to allow us to do so for our children.

This sector of the Silsila is vital and evidenced by the manner in which Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam) personally saw to the needs of those without parents in his day to day life. Our children are given a home, education and a place to feel loved and to grow in.

The Sarwari Qaderi Silsila firmly believes in the sanctity of life and that each sickly individual should be treated in a manner befitting dignity and warmth in an especially trying time.  This particular service is a very important as it gives an affected individual that much extra time to make amends with family and the dua of an ill person is always accepted by Allah. Through the dialysis project, sickly people with acute renal/kidney problems who are in need of dialysis, have the opportunity to receive dialysis treatment through Sultan Bahu Centre. This is a necessary and life-saving treatment for people who would otherwise suffer agonizing pain and sickness. Dialysis is extremely expensive, but every bit adds up, could you please consider donating towards this project?

In order to celebrate the life and teachings of Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam), we thought that light was the most fitting metaphor for Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam). We wanted to give back light to those in need of it, and we decided to reverse blindness in 63 people to commemorate each year of the Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alayhi wa salam)’s life.

In our first camp, we exceeded the target of 63 and gave back eyesight to 72 people afflicted with cataract blindness.  By the Grace of Allah, we have now given back the gift of sight to over 1000 people who would have been needlessly blind. Please click here to help us to give back the gift of sight through a donation.

The Sarwari Qaderi Silsila, began doing its charitable work with feeding people. We still do this and give out food hampers throughout the country at various outlets. These activities are not only limited to the month of Ramadaan, food hampers are handed out on a weekly basis through our various centres across all provinces. We encourage donations to help us do this more regularly for people in need.

At the outset of Winter, the Sarwari Qaderi Silsila hands out blankets to individuals living in cold and inhumane conditions. Please consider sponsoring a blanket for someone who faces bleak prospects this winter.
